The Hartsville-Trousdale County Chamber of Commerce will soon begin searching for a new executive director.

After long-time executive director Natalie Knudsen announced her retirement in late 2022, the chamber of commerce began an extensive search for her successor.

Early last year, Paul Graden, who had previously served with two other chambers of commerce, was chosen to fill the position. However, last week, the chamber of commerce’s three-member executive board decided to move in still another direction.

“We have not posted the job yet, but we will be looking for a new director,†said Hartsville-Trousdale County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors President Stephanie Dennis. “We are actually meeting on Tuesday to discuss it. We are going to try and post the job as soon after the meeting as we can.

“We just decided to go in a different direction. The executive board makes the decision, but we do meet with the board of directors (of the chamber of commerce).â€

While disappointed with the chamber’s decision, Graden said he really enjoyed his time with the Hartsville chamber.

“I enjoyed my year with the chamber of commerce and getting to know everybody in the community,†said Graden. “I had dreams and plans for the chamber, and I am disappointed that I was unable to take it in the new direction that we’ve been talking about over the last few months.â€

According to Graden, he now plans to explore other business opportunities in the area.
