An ode to the weary is delineated throughout the 66 books of the sacred text.
The Holy Bible is replete with God’s emphatic promises of strength for one’s journey. These divine assurances fuel the weariest pilgrim by motivating and energizing them to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God. Victory is ascertained to those who heed His impassioned pronouncements!
The sojourner is promised rest from their labor, grace for their trials, light for their path, unfailing sympathy amidst heartache, coupled with unconditional, unwavering love forevermore. Thankfully, the Lord is our ever-present Father as we trudge forward on our journey.
God is always faithful! The Almighty, who cannot lie, keeps every vow. He is a benevolent Heavenly Father whose care for His children is incomparable. The zenith of our life’s experience is walking with our Lord who cares for us every moment of the day.
However, it is paramount to acknowledge that there are things that God has not promised. He has not promised smooth roads or clear paths, free of enormous obstacles. He has not promised us endless days of blue skies, calm winds, rose petal pathways or shallow waters.
Unfortunately, the weary pilgrim will experience temptation, trouble and tumult. His journey will be met with opposition and discouragement from the enemy. Snares and entrapments abound. Vigilance and sobriety are of utmost importance.
The deadly devices of the enemy are around the corner in hopes of ensnaring the vulnerable pilgrim. The enemy’s devices are intended to cripple and destroy God’s child. The devil uses disappointment, discouragement, despair, doubt, disbelief, distraction, double mindedness, dishonesty, deceit, dullness, delay, discord, defilement, and disobedience as his tools. Every child of God is vulnerable; they all fall in moments of weakness.
Indeed, there are traps, pitfalls and failures along the long, winding road of life. God has not promised to eliminate the hazards along their pathway. The sojourner’s dangers lurk afresh every day. The Good Shepherd will lead them onto green pastures beside the still water. His sheep are loved and nurtured as they faithfully follow Him.
The great news is that the Heavenly Father is there to pick up the wandering sheep, to dust them off and set them back on the paths of His righteousness.
The prophet Isaiah amplifies that:
“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint; and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with
wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.â€
The encouraging promises from this passage have sustained weary sojourners for centuries. Although the way is difficult, we should never doubt that we are in the grip of Almighty God, receiving His renewing strength when needed.
Again, the prophet shares God’s promise, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee, be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.†(Isaiah 41:10)
No fears, no confusion, and no doubts. God has promised to demonstrate His power and glory to each of us, every day. Let us confidently go forward fellow sojourner! The ode to the weary has been heralded for all to hear!
Have a great week and remember, God loves YOU!
